A few years before creating this painting, I experienced a betrayal that led me to construct an impenetrable emotional cage around myself, seeking safety from further harm. Unexpectedly, I began to gradually vanish, retreating from human connection, love, and even my faith in God. After seeking help, I started glimpsing rays of light and feeling the reassurance of God’s promises. One particular day, I was granted a vision—a depiction of myself, on the ground with my back pressed against the wall, surrounded by darkness and anguish. I lifted my gaze and noticed a hand extending through a door in the cage—it was the hand of Jesus Christ. I understood that Jesus had traversed the arduous path I had taken, searching for me in order to guide me out. Without hesitation, I grasped His hand, and together we retraced the convoluted route until we emerged into light, hope, and life. Jesus had come—for me—and I realized He had been by my side throughout my journey.
About the Artist:
One of the most impressive things about Haley’s art is her ability to take the darkest times in her life and create so many pieces of light. Her LDS art is calm and loving. It consists of gentle colors, landscapes, and expressions that invite peace. Like many of our artists here at Altus, her paintings are an example of what the Lord can do with your life when you turn it over to Him.
